Is really Gmail borked? Buzz!!!
It has been announced by the Google that Google has finally decided to strengthen its presence in the fast emerging social networking sector.
Google Buzz product manager Todd Jackson equated the enhanced offering to “an entirely new world in Gmail” during an unveiling presentation at the Internet giant’s headquarters in Mountain View, California.
Buzz began rolling out on Tuesday with Google Web-based email service getting updates about what friends are doing online and ways to share video, photos and other digitized snippets with others of one’s choosing.
The all conversation about buzz, google buzz twitter, new gmail, gmail, google buzz kit, gmail buzz is, i think , just the excitement about new changes.

On Sunday morning plans for the last major construction mission at the International Space Station are been pilled up. Outside the shuttle new space station room is made together with cupola which have seven windows.

According to NASA, On Wednesday everything is fine and in a good way and the countdown will begin on Thursday and there are 70 percent chances of a good and clear weather.Commander George Zamka welcomed all of the six astronauts who arrived at their Florida launching site on Thursday and he noted that this is the only late night shift that they got.
Late Saturday NASA managers found a band of clouds and the ready shuttle was unable to go towards the International Space Station and it was postponed nine minutes before the launch as the overcast was not good for it.

Launch Director Mike Leinbach reported that they were not comfortable with the launch and he called the weather too much dynamic. All of the six crew together with the Endeavour have to deliver a new room.
The Kennedy Space Center is located on the east coast of Florida approximately midway between Jacksonville and Miami and is located about 35 miles east of Orlando International Airport in Florida.

Dr. Green is leading NISC in implementing and utilizing “next-generation” DNA sequencing technologies for myriad genome-exploration studies. He is extensively involved in projects directed towards the realization of routine whole-genome sequencing of human DNA samples.

Dr. Green’s research program focuses on the application of large-scale DNA sequencing to studying problems in human genomics, genetics, and biology. In his multiple roles as Scientific Director of NHGRI, Chief of the Genome Technology Branch, and Director of the NIH Intramural Sequencing Center (NISC), he has a fundamental interest in applying contemporary genomic technologies to diverse areas of biomedical research. All of Dr. Green’s research projects are performed in partnership with NISC.

In one area of study, Dr. Green and his colleagues are performing multi-species sequence comparisons in an effort to unravel the complexities of genome structure, function, and evolution. For these studies, genomic regions of interest are isolated from a variety of animal species, sequenced, and compared in detail. The resulting data sets provide unprecedented abilities to perform sequence comparisons of evolutionarily diverse species. In some cases, sequences conserved over tens of millions of years of evolutionary time are compared, revealing highly conserved sequences that are likely to have functional roles. In other cases, comparisons are focused on sequence differences among closely related species (such as groups of primates), revealing more recent genomic changes. In essence, Dr. Green’s group uses the detailed records of evolution embedded within all species’ DNA sequences to help decode the human genome. These efforts provided an important foundation for NHGRI’s ENCODE (Encyclopedia of DNA Elements) project, which seeks to identify all functional elements in the human genome and to facilitate the comprehensive understanding of complex genomes.

In a second area of study, Dr. Green’s efforts are aimed at understanding the molecular basis of human genetic disease. His early work led to the identification of genes associated with hereditary deafness (Pendred syndrome), vascular disease (cerebral cavernous malformations), and a neurological disorder (one form of Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease). Such discoveries provided new opportunities to study the function of individual genes and the proteins they encode, to define the pathological consequences of disease-associated mutations, and to generate animal models of these disorders. More recently, these studies have been broadened to utilize large-scale resequencing of human DNA (i.e., medical sequencing) as a general tool for studying genetic diseases. In doing so, a number of key challenges in human genetics are being addressed, including establishing the role of non-coding sequence variants in human genetic disease, as well as identifying and characterizing mutations associated with genetically complex (multigenic) disorders.

The Christmas gift for a sleepy friend you’re after, you might want to check out the Zeo Personal Sleep Coach, an alarm clock that records electrical signals from your brain with a headband. In the morning it returns a chart of how much time you spent in light, deep and REM sleep, as well as a personal sleep score (which they call your ZQ). It can also make waking up easier to wake you if you ask it to, by choosing a lighter sleep moment to rouse you.

Techology investor Esther Dyson gave the Zeo a mixed review at the meetup. For example, the headband has little pads that wear out quickly, and must be replaced. But the biggest problems are on the software side: Zeo does not allow more than one user to share the device, and makes it hard to extract the raw data. Despite those flaws, Dyson said she plans on experimenting with it some more.

If you want an even better picture of your sleep, you can follow the example of San Francisco resident, Matt Bell. After years of feeling drowsy all day and not knowing whay, he set up a bedside camcorder with an infrared illuminator in search of an answer. The footage was revealing.

“The biggest thing that surprised me was seeing how much I moved around while sleeping,” Bell said at the meetup. “It was fascinating to glimpse at the workings of this hidden unconscious world that occupies close to a third of our lives.”
You can wear the light-weight headband and it will wirelessly transmit your sleep patterns real-time to the bedside display – in the comfort of your own bed. Bedside Display The bedside display with alarm feature allows you to view up to 7 nights of your sleep data at your bedside, tracking the quality and quantity of each night’s sleep. Plus use the SmartWakeTM alarm feature to wake up at what could be an optimal time in your sleep. Accessories Along with the headband and bedside display, you’ll receive an SD card & SD card reader

Zeo Sleep Monitor Review

I am 57 year old man with severe, complex sleep apnea. I sleep with a Cpap machine. I have found the ZEO to be an excellent tool to help me monitor and understand my sleep. A small head strap monitoring device reads my sleep patterns through the night. The ZEO base station documents the information. When I wake up I place the headband device in a cradle in the ZEO base and in a few seconds the data is transferred. I then remove the data thumb drive from the base station and plug it into my computer to upload the data and review my sleep profile from the night before. I can see how long it took me to get to sleep and a breakdown of time spent in light sleep, deep sleep, REM sleep and any awakenings throughout the night. I can also view my prior sleep profiles. After accumulating a week or two of sleep profiles I get personal feedback and coaching from a ZEO staff member.

The satellite will orbit the Earth over the north and south poles and will detect objects that are difficult to see from the ground, including asteroids, cool stars such as brown dwarfs, and galaxies that shine brightly in infrared light.

“The last time we mapped the whole sky at these particular infrared wavelengths was 26 years ago,” said Edward Wright of UCLA, the principal investigator of the mission.

“Infrared technology has come a long way since then. The old all-sky infrared pictures were like impressionist paintings. Now, we’ll have images that look like actual photographs,” he said in a statement.

Once in orbit, the valves in the telescope’s cooling system will automatically open, venting super-cooled hydrogen into space.

A “small” (only 40 cm in diameter) telescope launched to survey to entire sky at mid-infrared wavelengths (where brown dwarfs, stars and AGN behind lots of dust, and dusty galaxies are easiest to detect), WISE is going to be an extremely important telescope for years to come (even though it is only designed to work for a year). Because it will make the most sensitive all-sky map at these wavelengths, it is likely to discover new classes of sources, and identify interesting objects for the upcoming James Webb Space Telescope and Atacama Large Millimeter Array to observed in detail.

WISE is a Medium Explorer (MIDEX) satellite, forming part of the Explorer programme. If it reaches orbit it will be designated Explorer 92. The first Explorer satellite, Explorer 1, was launched on a Juno I rocket on 1 February 1958, and became the first US satellite to successfully reach orbit. To date, 89 Explorer satellites have reached orbit, with several more lost in launch failures. Initially Explorer designations were given to all satellites regardless of launch outcomes; however since 1959 the designations have only been given to satellites that reached orbit.

The target orbit for the WISE launch is one with a semi-major axis of 6,912 kilometres (3,732 nautical miles), eccentricity of 0.00133, and 97.5 degrees of inclination; a retrograde low Earth orbit with approximately 530 kilometres altitude.

Delta 347 is a Delta II rocket which uses the 7320-10C configuration. At launch, its first stage will be augmented by three GEM-40 graphite-epoxy motors – small solid boosters used to provide additional thrust during the first minute of flight.

The 7320-10C is a two-stage configuration, with an Extra-Extended Long Tank Thor (XLTT) first stage, and a Delta-K second stage. A 3 metre (10 foot) composite payload fairing will encapsulate the spacecraft.

The Delta II entered service in 1989, and is one of the most reliable rockets currently in service; having made 146 flights to date with only one failure and one partial failure. After Delta 347, another four Delta II flights are currently planned before the rocket is retired from service, however it is believed that additional rockets are available should further launch contracts be signed.

Today’s launch will be the thirty-seventh to be conducted by United Launch Alliance, which was formed in 2006 to supply orbital launch services to the United States government. If the launch occurs today, it will be on the third anniversary of ULA’s first launch, which was conducted using a Delta II 7920-10C flying from the same launch complex. That launch, designated NRO L-21, placed the USA-193 satellite into orbit; a spacecraft which malfunctioned immediately after launch and was destroyed in 2008 by a modified SM-3 missile.

The RS-27A main engine of the first stage, which burns RP-1 propellant oxidised with liquid oxygen, will ignite about two seconds before launch. At liftoff, the solid rocket motors will ignite as well, and Delta 347 will begin its ascent. It will fly downrange along an azimuth of 196 degrees from Vandenberg, passing through Mach 1, the speed of sound, 35.7 seconds into the flight. Fifty seconds after launch, it will pass Max-Q, the point at which the vehicle will experience maximum dynamic pressure.

Sixty four seconds after launch, the solid rocket motors will burn out. They will remain attached for a further thirty five seconds in order to clear oil rigs off the coast of California in the interests of range safety. One hundred seconds into the flight, a dog-leg manoeuvre to adjust the rocket’s trajectory will commence, lasting forty seconds. Just over two hundred and sixty two seconds after lifting off, the first stage will cut off, an event known as MECO.

Eight seconds after MECO, the first stage will be jettisoned, and the second stage’s AJ-10 engine will ignite after a further five and a half seconds, burning hypergolic Aerozine-50 propellant with dinitrogen tetroxide oxidiser. Two hundred and ninety seconds after launch, the payload fairing will separate from around the spacecraft. Six hundred and twenty two seconds into the flight, and following a burn lasting about five minutes and forty five seconds, the second stage will shut down having completed its first burn.

With the first burn complete, Delta 347 will begin a coast phase, during which time it will reorient itself to provide better thermal conditions. The coast will last until 51 minutes and 40 seconds into the flight, at which time restart will occur, beginning the second stage’s second burn. This burn will last eight and a half seconds, and will be followed by the upper stage manoeuvring to the correct attitude for spacecraft separation.

Fifty five minutes and twenty seconds after launch, the spacecraft will separate from Delta 347. The separation will be observed by an Ecliptic Enterprises RocketCam camera mounted on the upper stage. Following separation, Delta 347 will perform additional manoeuvres to raise its orbit, in order to mitigate debris in low Earth orbit.

Delta 347 will launch from Vandenberg Air Force Base’s Space Launch Complex 2W (SLC-2W), which was originally built for tests of Thor IRBM during the late 1950s and early 1960s. Originally designated LC-75-1-2, the first launch from the complex was conducted by the Royal Air Force in 1959, using a Thor missile. The Delta II has used the complex since 1995.

This is the seventh Delta II launch to occur this year; the last time the rocket is expected to achieve such a high flight rate. It is also the twenty-fourth and last American orbital launch attempt of the year. Only one Delta II launch is scheduled for 2010, which will be of a 7940 configuration, and will carry the Italian COSMO-4 satellite.

The next scheduled ULA launch is of an Atlas V with the Solar Dynamics Observatory, which is currently planned for 3 February. The day before, the SpaceX Falcon 9 is slated to make its maiden flight in what is currently scheduled to be the first US orbital launch attempt of the year.

On Wednesday, the Sudanese ambassador, Lumumba Stanislaus Di-Aping, the head of the G77 and China, a bloc representing developing nations, faced the media to denounce the world’s rich countries. Not only, he said, were they about to condemn Africans to a death sentence from global warming but their offer of aid was so low ”it is not enough to buy us coffins”.

Minutes later, the European Union’s Artur Runge-Metzger responded witheringly that Di-Aping was unaware of all the European aid effort in Africa because he lived in New York.

Australia’s Climate Change Minister, Penny Wong, arrived in Copenhagen soon after and labelled the negotiations ”difficult” and the language around them ”unhelpful”. But the conference deteriorated further when Tuvalu, population 12,000, triggered the suspension of the peak meeting of the 192 nations for two days running. The crisis erupted because its chief negotiator, the former ANU lawyer Ian Fry, wanted an open discussion on the central issue before the conference – a new, legally binding global climate treaty that can avoid dangerous climate change. As Fry told negotiators: ”Tuvalu is one of the most vulnerable countries in the world to climate change and our future rests on the outcome of this meeting.”

But Tuvalu was blocked by the heavy hitters – China, India and the Arab oil kingdoms – who feared a plot to kill off the Kyoto Protocol, the only legally binding treaty that requires rich countries to cut their greenhouse gas emissions.

In less than a week, more than 100 heads of government are due to arrive at this conference, including America’s Barack Obama. Many expect a signed deal to get a legally binding treaty within a year to keep temperatures from rising more than two degrees. But as the optimism and energy of the opening days fade, thousands of negotiators, politicians, media and environmental activists gathered in Copenhagen are asking whether a meaningful agreement is possible, given the deep divisions between countries.

Two fundamental issues divide the players: how deeply are nations willing to reduce emissions, and what kind of legal treaty will enforce this.

At the Bali climate conference two years ago, it was accepted that wealthy nations should cut emissions, by 2020, by between 25 and 40 per cent from levels that existed in 1990. These cuts are based on advice from the UN’s peak scientific body, which found that emissions must peak by 2020 and be halved by 2050 to keep temperatures from rising more than 2 degrees and triggering dangerous climate change.

The only legally binding treaty available is the Kyoto Protocol.

But nearly all wealthy nations seem to want to ditch it. Kyoto, created more than a decade ago, does not impose emissions cuts on developing nations and has never been ratified by the US. Distrust between nations here is so great, nearly all developing countries – China and India included – fear that if Kyoto is killed off, rich countries won’t deeply cut their emissions and will force developing countries to cut more.

These fears were ramped up when a copy of a proposed Copenhagen Agreement drawn up by the Danish Prime Minister, Lars Lokke Rasmussen, was leaked to The Guardian newspaper two days into the talks. The draft made no reference to the Kyoto Protocol and was weak on a timetable for a new legally binding treaty. More importantly, it was branded by environmental groups and the G77 as a backroom deal worked out with a few nations to circumvent the UN meeting.

Di-Aping launched a scathing attack on the Danish proposal, calling it an attempt ”to rob developing countries of their just, applicable and fair share of the atmospheric space”.

The leak was particularly embarrassing for Australia because Kevin Rudd had worked closely on the draft with his Danish counterpart.

The draft has been put aside but fashioning agreement by all parties by next week will be a huge challenge.

A raft of scientific presentations at the conference has bolstered the case for action with the release of world meteorological data showing global temperatures climbing. This year is expected to be the fifth warmest since instrumental records began in 1850. With unwelcome help from El Nino, Australia is likely to have its hottest recorded year next year.

Some cold water has been poured on hopes for geo-engineering projects to slow climate change, such as fertilising the oceans to absorb more carbon from the atmosphere and injecting sulphates into the atmosphere. More than 150 environment groups from 36 countries issued a statement warning against unfettered use of ”techno fixes”.

“These technologies could have devastating ecological or social consequences, without helping reduce carbon emissions,” said Friends of the Earth.

Despite political stand-offs, the chief UN climate official, Yvo de Boer, insists there has been significant progress. The developing world’s big greenhouse polluters – China, India, Brazil and South Africa – have each submitted proposals to curb their soaring emissions. Wealthy nations, including the US, have put forward cuts but so far they fall well below those proposed by science. At last count, most proposed cuts were between 16 and 23 per cent, not the required 25 to 40 per cent.

The US delegation head, Todd Stern, says America will have difficulty improving its offer of 4 to 6 per cent. (The US described its offer as a 17 per cent cut from 2005 levels, not 1990).

And despite demands by China, Europe and Africa for the US to lift its offer, the White House is determined not to make promises in Copenhagen that will be rejected by the US Congress. Stern, meanwhile, wants China to lift its game by committing to reductions that can be verified. The US won’t sign Kyoto, which it wants replaced by a new legal treaty.

In a compromise, Kyoto could continue alongside a new treaty but neither side seems willing to budge.

is there really a Zhu Zhu Pets recall?

It seems a controversy exists between a report from Good Guide indicating elevated levels of tin and antimony and the Zhu Zhu Pets company, Cepia LLC. While rumors continue to fly, there is no Zhu Zhu Pets recall at this time.

My daughter wanted Zhu Zhu pets for Christmas but I wasn’t able to find them. Now with the Zhu Zhu Pets toxic rumors and possible Zhu Zhu Pets recall, I am waiting to get additional news before I invest in these highly coveted critters.

The group assigned the toy, aimed at 3- to 10-year-olds, a rating of 5.2 on a 10-point scale.

But the toy’s maker, St. Louis-based Cepia LLC, insisted in a statement that its product is safe and has passed rigorous testing. The company said it was contacting GoodGuide to share its testing data and determine how the report was founded.

“I have been in the toy industry for more than 35 years, and being a father of children myself, I would never allow any substandard or unsafe product to hit the shelves,” Russ Hornsby, Cepia’s CEO, said in the statement.

The maker of the robotic Zhu Zhu Pets hamsters defended its product Saturday against a study by San Francisco-based GoodGuide that said higher-than-allowed levels of the chemical antimony were found in the toy.

Good Guide named Zhu Zhu Pets hamsters one of the top-selling toys with low ratings after finding antimony, which can cause health problems, on the hair and nose of one of the toy hamsters, called Mr. Squiggles.

Time Warner Cable’s multi-cultural offering, NTDTV is adjacent to other Chinese channels. However, NTDTV holds the distinction for being the only full-time Chinese channel that does not require an additional monthly subscription, provided a subscriber household already has digital cable.

NTDTV has been a programming partner of Time Warner Cable since 2004, airing on Channel 32 in Southern Manhattan each night for 3 hours during prime time. The move to digital Channel 589 represents a significant expansion of the partnership.

Chinese residents in the New York City area responded enthusiastically to the news. As soon as NTDTV announced its new availability, its customer service hotline received a record number of calls.

PathFinder World Video LLC brokered NTDTV’s expanded service as its distribution agent. Its general manager Roger McGarrahan said, “NTD is a prime example of the quality programming and value an ethnic channel can provide their target audience. And Time Warner Cable’s New York City system is the ideal partner and market for a launch of NTD’s channel. PathFinder is very proud to have played a role to introduce NTD to a broader audience.
