Conficker Worm More Dangerous Then a Common Virus
Conficker Worm was noticed in 2008 when suddenly a malicious piece of software inserted into the Internet’s bloodstream. Since then it has infected millions of computers worldwide, assembling the largest-ever botnet which is a drone army of machines with unknown to their owners, might be structured at any time to set free digital disorder that could bring down global communications systems, power grids, perhaps the very Internet itself.
It is still unknown to everyone where did Conficker come from or who was or is behind it? According to Bowden, the author of Black Hawk Down, possibly it’s the Ukrainians, or the Chinese, or a dark Symantec, a commercial criminal enterprise recognized as the mirror image of the well-known Internet security firm. Whoever they were but they clearly knew what they were doing.
The Conficker botnet is massive attentiveness of computer power, had been accumulated and was still in the hands of its mysterious creators. In hacker jargon, the millions of infected machines remained uncategorized and they could be turned to any task that botmaster distinct.
They could be leased for steal or marshaled for attack. Bowden projected a scary picture of how overwhelming the scope of Conficker’s infection capability could get. The botnet, according to him, could be used as a weapon, which is what is shaking government officials to their bones.
It’s estimated that Conficker may have infected as many as 12 million computers worldwide.
If your security system once infected they can control your operating system turned over remotely. All the computer systems that have been infected by Conficker are known as a “botnet,” and together are powerful enough to overtake thousands networks like your bank, your telephones, your security systems, your plane’s air traffic control system,
and your Internet silently.
Mr Grainer informed board members after voicing his concerns at yesterday’s board meeting of DHB that he had gentled his resignation this week and would leave the DHB just before Christmas. He had been here just short of seven years, and seven years is about the end of what he do with any role now the time has come for change. It has been a difficult seven years for Mr Grainer, who was at the helm of technology when the DHB network was shut down for two days in December 2009 after being infected by the Conficker virus, affecting 5800 staff. It’s estimated that Conficker may have infected as many as 12 million computers worldwide. Waikato District Health Board is at medium risk of suffering further network outages in the next 12 months while the board’s information technology team has reached saturation point, according to outgoing chief information officer Alan Grainer.
