In 2010, the department discretionary budget will be brought down from $13.8 billion to $8.9 billion from 1^st October of this month. The decrease in the budget comes from U.S Census Bureau due to increase in spending by hiring half million people for conducting the census of 2010.

The estimated budget for Commerce will take $1.3 billion to perform and process the 2010 census data. The Congress is deeply putting its intentions on the census because it will put effect on the payout of the government and the number of seats in the state. Weather forecasting, climate conducts and open research is in the hands of The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration which will involve more money in achieving their plans. The NOAA will be provided with more than $2 billion for weather satellites and the measurement of sea level and climate reports.

The current budget will eliminate the grant programs of 2004 for the manufacturers of wool fabric. Obama was questioned by the Rep. Jeb Hensarling (R-Texas), the second-ranking Republican on the House Budget Committee about the annual anticipated budget at the House GOP retreat on Friday.
