Alice Cooper – Vincent Furnier’s Intresting Views
Alice Cooper believes by separating his on stage and off stage persona he has been able to extend his career, as many of his friends who have tried to live the rock star life to the fullest have tragically died along the way. It’s hard to live your image off stage. Jim Morrison tried to be Jim Morrison all the time, Keith Moon tried to be Keith Moon all the time and you can’t possibly live that character off stage or it will kill you. He is famed for his skills with a driver and a nine iron in his leisure time, but his onstage alter ego can’t stand the sport. Apparently without a legitimate news source to promote his new album Welcome 2 My Nightmare (the confusingly titled sequel to his 1975 classic Welcome To My Nightmare… yeah, whatever), classic shock rocker Alice Cooper told U.K. tabloid The Daily Star this week that he’d like to see a rock ‘n’ equivalent of music competition shows like American Idol and The X Factor.
Alice Cooper has been honored for his years of service to the music world at the Kerrang Awards. The veteran shock-rocker – famed for hits such as School’s Out and Poison, as well as his mock on-stage executions – won the Icon award from the music magazine. who first found fame with Black Sabbath before establishing a solo career and a stint as a reality TV star in MTV’s The Osbornes, as well as notoriety for his hell raising – had his award collected by his son Jack.US star Cooper was given his award for his four decades in the spotlight as well as pioneering theatrical shows which inspired acts such Kiss and Marilyn Manson. Other long serving acts to be honored at the bash included Def Leppard picking up the Inspiration award, and Korn who entered the Hall Of Fame.
Rock legend Alice Cooper was the show highlight at Thursday’s Kerrang Awards. Picking up the Kerrang! Icon award, the star had a lot to say about how rock has changed since the rock music magazine was first published 30 years ago. A few weeks ago the rock star born Vincent Furnier had to do something he had not done in 30 years, he cancelled a show due to illness. He had food poisoning while in Santiago, Chile, but just a few days before a Download headlining slot he is feeling good: “I was better the next day. I got a really good case of food poisoning the night before and I could not get out of bed. I hadn’t missed a show in 30 years but this was impossible. I took a really high dose of antibiotics and I was up the next day.”
